Exterior house painting in Madison, MS

Exterior painting not only improves the appearance of your house, it also helps to maintain the structural integrity of your home.

Chapter 01

Where Mississippi sun gets in first

Paint works hard on a Mississippi house. The sun chalks and fades the south and west walls first, and the caulk at trim joints splits over the seasons, which lets water get in behind the siding. By the time a stain shows up inside or the wood goes soft, the paint stopped doing its job a while ago. Repainting before the rot starts is cheaper than carpentry.

Anthony's Painting has repainted siding, trim and brick for homeowners across Madison, Rankin and Hinds County for over 20 years. Brick takes paint differently from wood, and an old yellow, olive or tan finish needs the right prep to land on a clean white. The gallery shows both, side by side, on the same houses.

Wash, scrape, caulk, prime, then paint

The house is pressure washed first, because paint only bonds to a clean surface. Then the crew scrapes and sands whatever is loose, caulks the trim joints that have opened up, and primes bare wood so it does not soak up the finish coat unevenly. Greg Stegall's review singles out the carpentry and prep work, and the pressure-washed concrete patio nobody had asked for.

The finish is Sherwin-Williams premium paint, and the lines are cut by hand at the trim, shutters and brick edges. Colour is settled before the first coat: the crew paints samples from the chips Anthony provides, so you see the hue in your own light. ATXMoparMan wrote that Anthony "made certain that it was what she wanted before starting."

Chapter 03

Why paint is the siding's raincoat

Paint is the water barrier for your siding and trim. A fresh coat on the exterior helps prevent water damage and extends the lifetime of the siding and trim, which is why a repaint protects the house as well as freshening it. Painted brick, wood and trim all depend on that film staying sealed at every joint and edge.

Walk the sun-facing walls and the caulk lines once a year. Chalky fading and hairline splits are the early signs, and catching them early keeps the work at a repaint instead of repairs. When the crew finishes, they clean up: Byron Ollie wrote that they "cleaned up after themselves." For a free estimate, call Anthony at 601-946-8107.

“Highest recommendations for their carpentry/prep work and painting on the exterior of our home.” Greg Stegall

Drag the seam across each photo. The two-storey gallery house went from yellow to white, and the brick home was painted white around its crape myrtle.

Timbers and wooden doors usually take stain rather than paint: see staining and door refinishing. Inside the house, the same crew handles interior painting. More finished houses are in the gallery.
