Wooden door refinishing in Madison, MS

Only Available if Part of Larger Exterior Painting Project. If your wooden door is exposed to the sun/elements, it is important to have the door inspected regularly for signs of the varnish beginning to crack.

Chapter 01

When the sun cracks the varnish

A wooden door facing the sun takes more punishment than anything else on the house. Heat and UV break the varnish down, it cracks and then greys, and moisture follows the cracks into the wood. Anthony's Painting says it plainly: if your wooden door is exposed to the sun and elements, have it inspected regularly for signs of the varnish beginning to crack.

This service has one condition, stated on their own services page: "Only Available if Part of Larger Exterior Painting Project." The doors are refinished while the crew is already on site for the house, so a door gets the same attention as the siding, trim and brick around it.

Sand the failing spots, stain, re-varnish

The process, as Anthony's Painting describes it: we will clean the door and sand the varnish in those failing areas. We then add stain to the distressed areas and re-varnish the door. Only the failing areas are sanded, so the sound finish around them is not stripped for no reason. The double entry doors in the photo below are the example.

Stain shows every decision, so the match matters. The crew works from the same sample habit reviewers describe on the house itself, painting samples from chips so the door and its surroundings are agreed before the finish goes on. Elisabeth N. wrote that Anthony "was on site daily," and that is where detail work like this gets checked.

Chapter 03

Inspect yearly, refinish before it needs stripping

This process is inexpensive compared to the cost of stripping the finish and starting over, and that is the whole argument for catching a door early. A cracked patch is a small job. A door left until the wood is bare and grey is a stripping job, and it is a much bigger one.

Stained finishes need ongoing maintenance, and Anthony says so up front. Look at the door once a year, especially the sun-facing side. If the varnish is lifting, call Anthony at 601-946-8107 and ask about adding the door to your exterior painting project.

“Anthony's crew did an amazing job painting the exterior of my house including the brick.” Elisabeth N.
